Art has always been a part of my life. I grew up surrounded by paintings my parents bought and became acquainted with works by famous artists from early childhood. After many years of graphic design work, teaching art classes, and other art endeavors I returned to my fine art roots, concentrating on watercolor painting.
In my paintings I strive to create recognizable images without being photographic. While some compositions lend themselves to metaphors, mostly I want the viewer to enjoy the beauty of color and shapes based on the world around us. Recent works have included cut paper collages, in which I take watercolor paintings with which I am not satisfied and ‘repurpose’ them into a new image. I have taken inspiration for these from Henri Matisse and Eric Carle.
